You Know You’re Doing Too Much Internet Marketing When…
Yesterday I received the following email from my busy friend, Sandi.
“Hi Marya,
You won’t believe what I just did: The last couple of days, I’ve been busy downloading lots of really good info. A few minutes ago, I decided that I would like some herbal tea so got everything ready to make it in the coffee maker (the water goes into the resevoir & down into the pot which contains the tea bag).
I waited a few minutes & then realized that the water wasn’t coming out. I said to myself “Why isn’t this downloading?” I laughed when I realized what I had said.
(I had plugged it into the right outlet… but I hadn’t turned it on.)
Sandi”
I laughed out loud when I read Sandi’s note. As for me, when I shut my eyes, I tend to see multiple browser tabs.
What do you think? Is it time to weed and focus your marketing efforts for 2010? It is for me: I’m biting the bullet and working hard at being more organized, with time for my goals; not just clients’. (You’ll know if I’m succeeding or not with the “time for my goals” thing by the number of posts here, this year!)
What are you doing to reclaim your life for 2010?

That is a really funny story from Sandi.
It reminds me of the time I said to my mother, “isn’t that funny, LOL!” and my mother responded, “L oh WHAT are you saying?!”
The new year is a great time to refocus, and one of my primary goals is to stop checking my favorite news sites all day. (If something important happens, I assume that somebody will let me know!)
LOL indeed! I’m in the middle of trying different systems of organization. To me, staying organized is crucial, since I have had almost zero spare time this last year; but what I’m realizing is, some methods work much better for me than others.
But having a good chuckle at stories like Sandi’s (and yours) – and realizing I’m actually not the only one who has those “virtual slips” – really lightens my day. Thanks for sharing, Ellen.
That is funny! One of my goals this year too is to be more organized and FOCUS on projects and avoid wasting time. Good luck to you – please let us know which method of organizing works for you.
Just wanted to share too … the other day while watching TV – I tried to use my cell phone as a remote control – I think I’ve gone nuts!
Thanks, Marie. Finally finding a high speed service that works in my geographic area (after a year of frustrating attempts at satellite service) has already made a huge improvement in my organization.
Hi Ellen, Marie & Marya
I’m so glad you all got a giggle from my story. It’s time for us all to “lighten up” / destress, & laughing at ourselves is one way to do it.
Another thing I’ve been known to do, is talk to my black purse when I think I’m talking to my black cat, Eby. I realize what I’m doing when it doesn’t move or reply to me. My goodness, what next! (I also have a white cat, Ivy. They are sisters/wombmates)- but no white purse to talk to, thinking I’m talking to Ivy).
I too, am getting myself organized which will sure help make life easier & things go smoother. For now, I’m on dial-up & after having High Speed, when I lived in another part of the country, it is soooooo slow. I do various things while downloading but it would be good to FOCUS. I’m really looking forward to having High Speed again, asap. I was thinking about this yesterday. It’ll mean that I’ll have more time to do some fun things.
Everyone have a really good day. & all the Very Best in 2010.
Sandi
Sandi, go to the Bell store and check out Bell’s Flex 2 mobile stick – it finally solved my year-long “no high speed problem”!!!
And as for talking to your purse… uh… when was the last time you had your eyes checked?
That’s too funny! I’m always thinking about what would make a good twitter post, blog post, etc. OH and I always want to use hashtags on facebook, when I’m blogging, etc. LOL!
LOL! Heather, I’ve done that, with hashtags!
That’s too cute! My duh! moment came when I reached for the mouse to scroll down to read the rest of a page. In a book. I took that to mean I spend far too much time online.
Marya, congrats on getting real hi-speed. I don’t know what I’d do if I had to go back to the good old days of dial up.
Thanks for writing, Lara – and Cindy, that’s too cute about trying to scroll through a book (I’ve SO done stuff like this!!!)
HILARIOUS! Thanks for the laugh!!
What a great story!
I have the same problem of not setting aside time for my own projects/goals. So far I’m making the time this week to do MY work in addition to client work. Hopefully this momentum will last longer than a week!
Hi everyone, I’m so pleased that my story is bringing such pleasure to your lives. Thank you.
A couple of evenings ago, I was on a call that Helen Graves was speaking on. She had good info to share with us. One thing she said was “We work too hard and don’t serve our clients in a way that meets our needs as well”. I sure know about that.
Fortunately, each moment of each day can be a new beginning. 2010 is not only a new year but a new decade. What potential we have!
Enjoy your day.
Another duh moment I have sometimes had: When watching TV, which I occassionally do, & I’ve missed hearing something that sounds important for me to hear, I say to myself “I’ll just push the replay button” & then I realize what I’ve said.
Have a great day everyone.
